FMD88-10

Help Me Choose... Super PLC Selection Chart

The new FMD88-10 Super PLC is designed to seamlessly replace the T100MD888+, one of TRi's most successful embedded PLCs for OEMs. It improves on its predecessor by adding multiple new features, including: an Ethernet port, 10 channels of high precision (12-bit) Analog I/Os, a 32-bit CPU that runs 3 times faster, and optional support of state-of-the-art Ferromagnetic RAM memory for non-volatile storage.

This powerful Super PLC also provides new data-logging capabilities that integrate your equipment into the cloud. Currently, when performing performance or diagnostic analysis on production equipment, most enterprises either generate the performance data manually on demand, or set up complex systems for interfacing with the equipment in real-time. Combining the FMD88-10 with the FRAM-RTC-256, however, enables your equipment to log operational or measured data to local data files and then regularly, automatically upload these data files to any webserver on the LAN or the Internet (via FTP). The ASCII data files can then be downloaded from that webserver by your MIS department for analysis at their convenience. Get equipment data when you need it, with no concerns about firewalls or system permissions. This outstanding new capability is described further in the manual, FMD PLC Extended File System.

Create Your Own Control Web Page
First introduced in the Nano-10 PLC, the new FMD88-10 implements the same AJAX technologies that allows anyone to create a custom web page to control their equipment using any browser (including the iPhone), without needing to write a single line of Java or Javascript program code. Ethernet Super PLC Application Ideas

1. Nano-10 based Building Automation System

This Powerpoint presentation shows how a BAS system has  successfully been constructed using Nano-10 PLCs as master PLCs to control up to 40 load per building via RS485. The built-in web control capability of the Nano-10 is being used as user interface. Please click on the picture to watch the video and Power Point presentations.

2. Internet Accessible Home Control System

Click on the following video to view a real-life home automation project description submitted by a Nano-10 system integrator:

You can implement a small control system to directly control some equipment in your home and add an web page interface to it in no time.

By combining with low cost Wi-Fi bridge (e.g. D-Link DAP1522), multiple Super PLCs can easily be connected to a HOME Wi-Fi Network. This allows you to easily retrofit the Super PLCs into an existing home or commercial building to implement your customized home automation. Since the Super PLCs can perform M2M communcation readily your intelligent home is therefore served by multiple brains coordinating among themselves.

3. Super PLC As Modbus TCP/IP Gateways for Sensors

The Super PLC built-in Modbus TCP/IP Server allows simultaneous connections by up to 5 Modbus TCP/IP clients.  With only a few lines of program code you can immediately collect data from your current sensors and makes them available to the factory-wide SCADA or Enterprise network Host Computer.

Best of all, you can also perform some pre-processing (e.g. compute the moving average, scaling or linearization) of the data or perform local control with its powerful yet simple to learn Ladder+BASIC programming language.

Since multiple communication protocols can coexist on the Ethernet network, these super PLCs provides an instant, low cost solution for sensor manufacturers or any users to connect the sensor to the modern control system.

4. Quickly Create A Customized Basic Control Web Page

Since the Super PLC built-in web services employs the AJAX technology for equipment control, it allows you to quickly create a custom web page within a few minutes to control your equipment. Your user can then use any PC or smart phone (e.g. iPhone) web browser to view the equipment, with graphical illustrations.

Best of all, your user does not need to install any application in order to view the operation of your equipment. So what they gain is a no-hassle, free Graphical HMI to interact with your equipment via the Internet.

Imagine how much this capability would add to the competitive advantage of your equipment!

5. Data Logging and Control of MODBUS Devices. Data Can Be Logged To Remote Server Via The Internet.

Since the Super PLC can issue Modbus-RTU or Modbus ASCII commands to access many industrial devices and sensors such as power meters connected to its RS485 port. This means it can readily acquire data from any instrument that understands Modbus protocol.  In addition, since the Super PLC can open a client connection to a remote server, it can log the acquired data to store as data files in the remote PC.

6. Creating More Sophisticated Control Web Pages

OEMs with web page design expertise can create their own highly sophisticated customized webpages to control their equipment.

The attached video was contributed by an OEM customer who has created a customized control web page for the Nano-10 PLC which is more sophisticated than the basic web control web page shipped with the PLC.

Those who wish to purchase the control Javascript codes for this webpage can contact Joel Haggar of Mango Automation Systems  at email: joel@infiniteautomation.com
